I get questions daily about how to measure for roman shades.
It’s a good question! Don’t be afraid because it’s a lot easier than it seems.
Here’s a how to-
If you decide to do an inside mount roman shade, you'll want to measure
from the left side of the inside of the frame molding to the right side of the
inside of the frame molding. You don't want to include the molding because your
shade is going to fit right inside the window sill itself. This is the width of
the shade. Then you'll want to measure with the same idea from the top of the
inside of the frame molding to the bottom of the inside of the frame molding
for your length.
Those are the two numbers you'll need for an inside mount roman shade.
For an outside mount roman shade you'll want to measure from the left to
the right from the outside of the frame to the outside of the frame. Then
you'll want to add a few inches to both sides to allow for it to go out further
past your window over the wall a bit. How many inches you add (if you even add any at all) is totally up to
you and your preference, but the normal amount is usually 1-2 inches just to
give you an idea.
Now that you have the width for the outside mount, you'll
want to measure in the same way for the length from top to bottom. Then you'll
want to add a few inches to the top. You don't have to add inches to the bottom
unless you'd like the shade to go past your window sill. Again, that's totally
up to you!
